If you are thinking of having a bathroom in your home remodeled, it can be a good idea to sit down and go over all the different things you would like to have done before you start This is an especially good idea if you are going to be on a specific budget for the remodeling project

Many times people decide to remodel and will have a budget to work with, but without careful planning, the budget can be out the window before you know what has happened When you set an amount for your budget always try and factor in some extra money for unexpected things that always seem to pop up Depending on how large your budget is will determine the things you will be able to accomplish

Make a list of the most essential things you wish to have done in your new bathroom, the most important first and so on If you are going to be moving things around like the placement of the toilet, bathtub, or vanity, then it will be necessary to have plumbing done Even if you do the job yourself, there will be the cost of the materials needed

If you are not going to move these fixtures, you might want to consider resurfacing for the sink, bathtub, or shower This can be much less expensive and less time involved that buying and putting in new ones This will not change the style of the fixtures, but it will make them look brand new and the color can be whatever you like There are also pre made tub and shower kits you can purchase and do your self These are cost effective too

Choosing a new floor and countertop for your bathroom can range in cost depending on the material you decide to use Natural stone is very popular, but it is also expensive and may need to be installed by professionals Natural stone will add value to your home because it is so popular

Vinyl or ceramic tiles can be less costly than natural stone and it is available in different prices The variety of vinyl is almost endless and you are sure to find something you like Many times vinyl flooring can be a do it your self project and this can save you money

Whatever you choose to go into your bathroom remodel, add up the cost of everything before you start It is always better to go into any remodeling project with a budgeted game plan and try to stick to it ot it could end up costing you a lot more than you originally planned

Then you have to get rid of it and get some new wallpaper You can get rid of it by yourself, or you can get some one to do it for you It makes your walls weak and gross You need a vent to get the moisture out of your bathroom so mold will not get in it If you have mold already, you need to get it out of there

Safety In The Bathroom

Author: admin  //  Category: bathroom designs

Author : dror klar

Usually when we design and decorate our bathrooms, the things we think are the most important are the things we put in them and the way they look This is very true and important In many homes there will be small children, elderly folks, or disabled members of our family Special considerations need to be made for these family members as well Every year there are serious and even fatal accidents that occur in the bathrooms of our homes The one thing that causes most of them are slipping and falling Usually it is in the bathtub or shower and occurs mostly to children, elderly, and disabled people

When we have these family members, it is for the best if we make sure we use as many safety precautions as we can to help and prevent bathroom accidents A lot of the things that we can do really do not cost very much money or require a lot of time to install When we place slip resistant mats in the bathtub, it is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to prevent falls

Non slip rugs placed on the outside of the bathtub or shower will help prevent slipping on wet tile, stone, or vinyl flooring Grab bars are also easy fixtures that can be added cheaply and easily in places where some people need help in getting up and down They can be placed in strategic places like inside the bathtub or shower and beside the toilet They are a great way to help prevent falling

Placing a seat designed for bathtub or shower use in the tub or shower stall can make bathing a safer process, especially for the disabled or elderly There are transfer benches and hydraulic or battery powered lift seats for those who can not get in or out of a bathtub alone There are also bathtubs and showers with doors that you can open to get into them There is no stepping over a deep side to get in These are made for handicapped and elderly

Scalding by very hot water in the bathtub happens to children more often than we might think This can be so heartbreaking, especially for a parent who could probably have prevented this kind of tragedy Faucet guards are available in child friendly faces that will completely cover the bathtub faucets Always turn the hot water spigot off tightly and never, ever leave very small children unattended in the bathtub There are also lid locks available for your toilet that will prevent children from putting things in them that do not belong

Water Damage Restoration In Your Bathroom

Author: admin  //  Category: bathroom designs

Author : Luana Pershing

Every home that has been designed over the past 50 years is guaranteed to have interior plumbing If a problem ever occurs with the plumbing system it can be a major problem that needs to be handled quickly

We will go through some of the common yet major problems that may happen in the home and will require water damage restoration:

* Pipes begin sweating

* Bathtub/shower leak

* Toilet tank begins sweating

* Leak surrounding toilet bowl

As you can see from the above examples they occur mainly in your bathroom area and may need you to take the necessary water damage restoration processes Now let’s go through what may have caused any of these problems

Pipes that begin to sweat generally happen around your cold water pipes This usually means that they need to be insulated So what exactly should you do if you have sweaty pipes? To prevent you from major water damage restoration in the future, you should consider insulating these pipes This can be done with an insulating kit and wrapping the plumbing, as the instructions will tell you to do so with the kit

Now if you have a leak around your bathtub or shower that might be going to the floor below it could be caused by missing tiles on the surrounding floor allowing water to soak through footboards, or a crack in the bathtub/shower When this occurs you will want to go through and place new grout on the tiling, resetting any tiles that are out of place, repair pipes that are leaking, and you may even need to replace the bathtub and shower bottom

When a toilet bowl begins to leak the first thing you should check is the wax ring that is located on the base of the bowl which may be deteriorated You could also investigate for a crack in the bowl or tank Another area that could cause a leak is if your toilet is running constantly If any of these takes place, you may need to replace the old wax ring, buy a new bowl or tank that isn’t cracked, or make adjustments to your flushing device so that it no longer has a gap between the hole and block off point that causes the water to run constantly

If you’ve noticed that your toilet tank has begun sweating, it is generally caused by the water inside the tank being much colder than the environment where the toilet tank is located This means your tank is lacking in insulation To stop your tank from sweating you will want to drain your tank and dry it After doing this, place a Styrofoam board into the tank with a silicone adhesive to hold it down Once the adhesive after several hours, you will then be able to refill the tank and you will discover it will no longer sweat

As you can see these are not major water damage restoration steps and are in fact, easy for a person to do on his own given complete instructions Just ensure that you follow the steps for your water damage restoration processes and you will no longer have to worry about leakage in your home, avoiding any costly water damage restoration projects in the future

Is Your Bathroom Under Attack From Moisture

Author: admin  //  Category: bathroom designs

Author : Jim Corkern

It might not always be necessary for a pipe to drip or burst in your bathroom for you to discover water damage in there It is a fact that when you do not have proper ventilation in a bathroom, water issues inevitably occur There is an easy resolution to this problem, they are called exhaust vents

In just about any of the dwellings that have been constructed in recent years, exhaust vents in the bathrooms are pretty standard equipment If you lease or have acquired an older house or apartment, they very well may not have them If you do not already know why exhaust vents are necessary in eliminating some water problems, here are several reasons why

The bathroom is usually the dampest room in your house There is so much showering and bathing, most likely with the door closed, that will cause too much moisture in the room even if things do not get entirely wet

Over time, all this wetness can induce a few problems To begin with, it will probably make mold begin grow on the walls and the ceiling It could make the paint and wallpaper bubble or peel

There is also another side effect and that is the damage it can do to sheet rock and woodwork in the bathroom If your house has older sheet rock in it that will not resist dampness, the mold will likely grow into it and absolutely must be taken down and replaced because it can make you sick

The woodwork in a bathroom will often swell from the continuous moisture The wood will buckle or come away from the wall, and many times a bathroom window can swell so much it will not open

These problems are all caused by dampness Steam that occurs from hot showers or baths are just seen for a little bit while the bathroom is in use and then it disappears

Even when it does not appear to stick around long enough to create any bad damage, it definitely will sooner or later The best way to remedy these headaches before they come up is to purchase exhaust fans for all the bathrooms in your residence and the kitchen too

They can be purchased at almost all home improvement stores and for the money they may save in the long run, they are well worth it They are not that costly, but woodwork and sheet rock repairs will be They can be installed fairly easy by individuals who are good at minor home improvement projects

Sharing Bathrooms Without Sharing the Germs And Other Dangers

Author: admin  //  Category: bathroom designs

Author : Aydan Corkern

Sometimes it is just necessary to have to share a bathroom with others Families must do this a lot of the time Another time you might be stuck sharing a bathroom with someone is at college You might share an apartment or a dorm room with one only bathroom for the both of you In some cases there might be even more than two people having to share it with you This could turn into a really nasty and germy situation quickly, especially for busy students that attend classes, have homework, and work as well

When people must share a bathroom there really are certain rules that should be followed to prevent spreading germs and illnesses to each other as much as possible and also to keep from offending others that might be a little neater than some students The last thing busy students need is to come down with cases of the flu or stomach viruses It does not take a lot of time to ensure that when you are through with the bathroom it will be sanitary enough for the next one in line

Keeping disinfectant sprays in the bathroom for everyone to use is a wonderful idea They can be used to spray on the toilet seats, bathtub, showers stall, or sink after each use While this will not eliminate all of the germs that are present, but it will help to reduce them and also the minimize the risk of mold growth and spreading things like foot fungus between thorough cleanings You can make sure you drain the tub and wipe down the water from it and the shower stall before you spray disinfectant Dirty water can spread germs too

The question of how often a bathroom needs a good scrubbing with a disinfecting cleaner such as bleach, will depend on how often it is used It might still look clean, but be filled with germs Take turns scrubbing the bathroom well with your roommates at least once a week Be courteous and pick up your dirty clothes and towels too It will help keep the bathroom neater and everyone will likely get along better because of it No one wants to have to be responsible for cleaning up your mess after you are done

Do not share your towels, razors, hairbrushes, or other like personal items with others This is another way to keep from spreading germs around When your mother warned you about cleanliness, she was telling you the truth It is much easier to take a few minutes or less to clean up after your self than to have people getting literally sick and tired of being around you

Exhaust Fans Help Prevent Bathroom Mold

Author: admin  //  Category: bathroom designs

Author : Jim Corkern

If you live in an older home or are thinking about buying one, there may not be exhaust fans in the bathrooms Installing them will probably be in your best interest for quit a few reasons

First of all they help to pull those smelly odors out of the room Next they stop your mirrors from fogging up so much, but more importantly they go along way towards the prevention of mold growth All that moisture will eventually lead to the black fuzzy looking stuff setting up housekeeping on your bathroom walls and ceiling

Excessive moisture can damage to your paint or wallpaper and woodwork as well If left unresolved it can damage sheetrock and cause extensive repairs to have to be made Mold growing anywhere can be unsightly and not a very healthy situation either

Installing an exhaust fan now can be a fairly inexpensive solution when compared to the costly consequences of putting it off until later You can get them at most home improvement stores

They can be purchased with or without lights If you have a ceiling light fixture in your bathroom already, you can replace it with a fan/light combination Or add just the fan in another location Before you go down to pick one out, be sure to know the measurements of your bathroom so you are able to purchase one that will be strong enough for the size of your room

A sales person should be able to help you locate one with the right CFM {cubic feet per minute} That information can be found somewhere on the box

If your going to attempt the installation yourself, take a good look at the tools you will need and all the necessary steps involved to be sure that you are up to the task

There are several things such as electrical wiring, installing the vent into the ceiling and out of the house through the attic You might want to consider hiring someone to do it for you Sometimes this is the best way to go if your not very skilled at do it yourself projects

Whichever way you decide to go, it will be an inexpensive improvement that will help to dispel a number of things excessive bathroom moisture can cause It will defiantly be worth the time and money now compared with what it could cost you latet on
